The Yoga Teaching Essentials course provides a thorough training in developing the skills necessary to become a confident, knowledgeable Yoga instructor. It will provide an in-depth understanding of Hatha Yoga to help establish, expand and refine teaching skills. If you are looking to jumpstart your teaching career, or gain more confidence in the classroom, this is a great option for you.

The included Practice Weekend will allow participants to explore depths of the Yogic practices and lifestyle. This experience can then become a guide when sharing these profound teachings with others. 

Prerequisites

  • Previously completed RYS 200-hour training with Integral Yoga or with a different school of Yoga.

This course certifies any participant to teach an Integral Yoga Level 1 – Beginners Hatha Yoga class and will be qualified to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200. 

Curriculum

  • Hatha Yoga – In-depth training in asanas and how to teach them with the ability to adapt to students' individual needs. Includes instruction in subtle practices such as deep relaxation, pranayama, and meditation, as taught in Integral Yoga Hatha classes.

  • Anatomy – Study of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics as they relate to asana practice, with an emphasis on understanding benefits and contraindications.

  • Teaching Methodology – Guidance on making adjustments, adapting class sequencing, teaching Yoga workshops, and more.

  • Practicum – Weekly practice teaching sessions supported by our experienced mentoring staff. Students receive individual guidance with the goal of teaching a full class by the end of the program.

  • Professional Development – Covers ethical guidelines, scope of practice, practical advice for pursuing Yoga teaching as a career, continuing education opportunities, and professional accreditation.

  • Online and In-Person Teaching Skills – Training in both virtual and in-person class delivery to prepare for diverse teaching environments.


Certification Requirements

To receive certification, participants must complete the following:

  • Teach a qualifying class to fellow trainees.

  • Pass three written assessments:

  1. Raja Yoga Review – Can be taken at the end of Module 1.

  2. Midterm Quiz – Covers detailed knowledge of the sequence and core poses of the Integral Yoga Level 1 class.

  3. Final Exam – Includes Yogic terminology, the sciences of Yoga, and basic anatomy.

In addition to passing all written reviews, students must meet attendance requirements and successfully teach a full Integral Yoga Beginners class as part of the practicum.


Support and Community

Graduates of our 200-hour teacher training program may apply to teach at the Integral Yoga Institute. If accepted, they’re eligible for  additional free training with a mentor and ongoing continuing education. They can also apply for a variety of graduate-level teacher trainings leading towards RYT 500-hour certification.


Tuition includes free access to all Yoga classes offered at Integral Yoga Institute San Francisco and free access to IYTV, a large and ever-expanding library of recorded Integral Yoga Teachings and classes, throughout the duration of this course!


Online

The entire training can be completed online. We offer optional in-person components, though they will not be required. We are committed to providing a safe, high-quality learning experience for all participants.

Graduates will develop the skills needed to teach both in-person and online. As Yoga Alliance continues to update its guidelines for online teacher training, we remain aligned with their standards. Our dedicated staff provides personalized support and online coaching to ensure meaningful connection and guidance throughout the training.


All materials shared online, including lecture recordings, will be available throughout the training and for three months after completion of the course.


Technological Requirements

Please note that regular access to the internet is required to participate in this online training. You must be able to run Zoom on your computer or tablet and have an active email account to receive course materials.



*Payment information and Refund Policy:

A $25 non-refundable application fee is applied towards the tuition. After your application has been accepted, you will be prompted to make a payment when we start enrolling students into the course. If you apply before the early bird pricing expires, you will receive a discounted early-bird price. For RYT 200 teachers, please email us your diploma when you apply at [email protected]. Full payment is required one week before the start of the program, unless a prior payment plan has been arranged. Once the program begins, the program tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable. If canceling before the start of the program, the balance will be refunded minus $175 administration fee.


Partial scholarships are available for this training when possible. We accept scholarship applications up to one month prior to the start of the training. BIPOC are encouraged to apply. 


We offer payment plans for our applicants. The tuition is divided into a number of smaller payments. A one-time, $35 admin fee applies when setting up your plan. You can apply with an early enrollment option and start your payments in advance to have smaller monthly payments.

Lead Trainer

Raama Das

E-RYT 500, C-IAYT

Raama Das, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT, is a former director of the Integral Yoga® Teachers Association and has been instructing Integral Yoga since 2009. He is a lead trainer for the Integral Yoga 200-hour Teacher Training at Yogaville and co-presenter for the 200 and 500-hour Yoga Alliance programs at Heal Me Institute in Fredericksburg. Raama recently received certification as a Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), having studied Yoga programs for specific health conditions, including, anxiety, depression, cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and addiction. He is also certified as a teacher of Intermediate Hatha, Raja Yoga, Meditation, Stress Management, Yin Yoga, and Yoga for our Elders. Raama has studied and served extensively at the Integral Yoga Academy at Yogaville and managed the Integral Yoga Therapy Program. In addition, he has participated in many months of deep Tantric and classical Yoga sadhana (practice) at the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School in Sweden under the direction of Swami Janakananda. He currently serves as Institute Manager at the Integral Yoga Institute San Francisco.

Swami Ramananda

Swami Ramananda C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP is the Executive Director of the Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition, who has been practicing Yoga for over 45 years. Ramananda offers practical methods of integrating the timeless teachings and practices of Yoga into daily life, and transforming the painful aspects of human experience into steps toward realizing one’s full potential. He leads beginner, intermediate and advanced Hatha Yoga teacher training programs in San Francisco as well as Meditation and Raja Yoga teacher trainings. He offers a variety of programs in many locations in the U.S., Europe and South America. Ramananda co-developed the Stress Management Teacher Training program with Swami Vidyananda, has trained many teachers to bring Yoga into corporate, hospital and medical settings, and has taught mind/body wellness programs in many locations. He is a certified Yoga therapist and founding board member of the Yoga Alliance, a national registry that supports and promotes yoga teachers as professionals. He is a co-founder of The Spiritual Action Initiative (SAI) which brings together individuals committed to working for social justice for all beings and for the care and healing of our natural world. His warmth, wisdom and sense of humor have endeared him to many.
